A penetrating sealer is typically a permanent sealer or coating and is very difficult to remove, a lot more difficult than the surface sealers because they are typically a solvent-based polymer.

Impregnating sealers or a solvent-based sealer that typically requires a professional to apply. Another advantage of an impregnating sealer is that this solvent-based sealer that actually penetrates and gets absorbed down into the stone will last for several years with proper care before another application is required.
