Natural Stone has become a great choice for fireplaces countertops and flooring because of its natural beauty and durability. Builders are building more and more homes with stone floor kitchens granite countertops granite used in the bathrooms. Some of the most popular stone options are marble, limestone, travertine, slate, and Granite.  Most stones are naturally porous in nature which is why it's a great idea to protect your investment by sealing.  While granite has a very tight molecular structure, it's still a good idea to Seal Granite.  Granite naturally resists many of the penetrating stains that typically marble or travertine cannot resist.

There are three types of sealants for stone. The first is Surface sealant. The next level is a penetrating sealant. The last type of sealer is the impregnating sealer.  Impregnating sealers are the higher quality and more expensive of the sealers.

Surface Sealers

Surface sealers are a strippable coating because it's applied to the top surface of the stone and can be removed. It is typically a water-based sealer.  An example of one such sealer is acrylic surface sealers are inexpensive but they do need to be stripped and reapplied from time to time increasing the overall maintenance cost of the floor.

Penetrating Sealers

A penetrating sealer is typically a permanent sealer or coating and is very difficult to remove, a lot more difficult than the surface sealers because they are typically a solvent-based polymer.

Impregnating Sealers

Impregnating sealers or a solvent-based sealer that typically requires a professional to apply. Impregnating Steelers are very popular for sealing Stone Outdoors in a pool or patio area because they are not affected by UV light and they do not alter the color of the stone at all. Another advantage of an impregnating sealer is that this solvent-based sealer that actually penetrates and gets absorbed down into the stone will last for several years with proper care before another application is required.
