Frothed Foam (Froth Polyurethane Foam)
This type of pad is made by Shaw Industries Inc. out of Dalton GA. Here are the specs in more detail about this type of cushion.
DFW Steam Cleaning recommends a high quality pad as well as the use of a power stretcher when your carpet is installed to avoid future carpet wrinkles.
Type: MFCB A Hi-Density Mechanically Frothed Chemically Blown Micro Closed Cell Foam Cushion
Characteristics: The micro cell construction allows each cell to act like a tiny shock absorber. This gives outstanding resilience and support. This pad will NOT bottom out. "MFCB" pad is ideal for the heaviest residential traffic, and can be used over radiant heated floors. In fact, the R rating is so low (1.35) that it takes less energy for warm air to pass through the small cells of the padding. Therefore, floors get warm quickly, and due to the "thermos" effect, stay warm.
This pad is also environmentally friendly. It has virtually no VOCs i.e. styrene, formaldehyde or 4-PC. This new pad has received the new "Green Label Plus" from the CRI 105 indoor air quality testing program. This means it cannot give off more than 600 ug/cubic meter. Frothed foam pads, on average, only give of 35 ug (virtually undetectable). Its off gassing is 150% less than carpet. Also, Shaw's frothed pad is treated so as to eliminate bacteria growth. This means that if you have a pet spill, and you clean it up, the residue will not breed more bacteria and begin to smell. This also applies to foods like spilt milk etc. Furthermore, Frothed Foam Carpet Cushion will not crumble, or disintegrate like rubber.
Froth foam also has superior load bearing capability. This means the carpet will not delaminate, will not wrinkle, and will have outstanding appearance retention. What makes Shaw's froth foam unique is that it is the only pad of its type to use SUNFLOWER oil. Shaw will warranty this pad for the life of the home.
There are all types of carpet padding to suit every need. There is pet pad that has a plastic waterproof barrier on the top that keeps pet urine from soaking into the pad and in turn the sub floor. There is regular foam pad as well as rebond (pictured in banner) in different density's and thickness. If you upgrade to a more expensive pad, make sure you get what you pay for and make the density is what you bought.
